Maja

Maja was born 14 years ago, on March 21st, which is the World Down Syndrome Day. It was a special date that changed the life of the entire family forever - Maja was diagnosed with the said syndrome and the extra chromosome caused further complications, including difficulties moving or speaking. The fact that our protégé has learned to read, speak and write is caused by her hard work, but it would have never been possible if it were not for her mother - Edith, whose determination, faith, and strength made Maja deal with difficulties in a highly satisfactory manner. However, to make it possible, the help of therapists, consultations with specialists, as well as the participation in speech therapy camps have been necessary. Unfortunately, all that is connected with remarkable expenses.

Down syndrome and a number of other difficulties have caused our protégé to now have to struggle with many diseases. Reduced muscle tension impairs fitness. What is more, Maja has a serious eye defect, hypothyroidism, and auditory hypersensitivity. She is often ill, frequently suffers from tonsillitis, as well as upper and lower respiratory tract infections. In the age of the pandemic, those are vital challenges for Maja and her family to face. However, the biggest problem that hinders Maja's functioning is oligophasia. It is a speech disorder in other words. It requires a constant therapy. Edith does her best to secure funds from the household budget for speech therapy classes and camps that will help her daughter speak more fluently and clearly. It is the only way for the girl to gain greater independence - the better others understand Maja, the less trouble the girl will have to deal with in the future. It is Edyta's greatest goal: to ensure Maja’s proper development and acquisition of new skills, making her more independent when her mother is not around. Fear for the future accompanies every parent. Edith and her husband are strongly afraid: how will Maja ever manage in her adult life without their help? They use all their energy and strength so that the girl can continue to take advantage of the available options and therapies. Overcoming the barrier related to speech impediments aiming at improving Maja's communication skills is crucial.

Maja is under the constant care of a speech therapist, psychology expert, and rehabilitator, but she also needs continuous neurologopedic, psychological, and physiotherapy rehabilitation sessions, as well as sensory integration classes. So far, only good and friendly people have appeared in her life, making Maja smile constantly. She is truly unique, loves to learn, and adores her relatives. In order to be able to deal with everyday life better, she needs some help, so we would like to encourage you to support the fundraiser organized for our protégé. Thank you!

30-12-2020 - We met Maja at the beginning of December. When visiting someone's house, it is not appropriate to come empty-handed, which is why the girl got a teddy bear from us. We know from Edith that Maja liked her toy a lot and they even go to school together :).
